Aaron Carter

Born Aaron Charles Carter in 1987, the singer, rapper and songwriter grew up in Tampa, Florida. He started performing at a young age, and was a popular act among pre-teen and teenage audiences. In 1997 he covered the song "Crush" by The Jets during a Backstreet Boys concert in Berlin. The performance was well received and led to a recording contract. His first self-titled album was released in 1997. His second album was released in 2000 and entitled Aaron's Party (Come Get It). Carter began touring with The Backstreet Boys shortly thereafter. Carter's elder brother Nick Carter was a member of The Backstreet Boys, and the two acts often performed together. Carter's next release Oh Aaron went platinum but after the release Carter did not record another studio album for 16 years. Carter appeared on three songs on the "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius"(2001) soundtrack. Carter's parents sued Carter's former manager for failure to pay royalties, and Carter faced problems in his personal life with drugs and unstable romantic relationships. In 2009 Carter joined the cast of "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC, 2005-), in the show's ninth season. He and his partner finished in fifth place. In the 2010s Carter faced legal trouble, questions of substance abuse and dependence, and filed a bankruptcy petition to clear himself of the nearly $4 million in debt he had accrued.
