He continued to accept roles in France, both in film and television throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including movies such as "Ya bon les blancs," "The Absence," "Clubbed to Death (Lola)," and "La vie en face," and television roles on shows including "Serie noire" and "Les cordier, juge et flic." Descas first began to gain international recognition in 2000, when he took on the role of Joseph Mobutu in Raoul Peck's 2000 film, "Lumumba." As he continued to act in French film and television, he began to branch out in a pair of pictures by acclaimed director Jim Jarmusch. He acted in the "No Problem" segment of the director's 2003 "Coffee and Cigarettes" and in 2009 went on to appear in Jarmusch's "The Limits of Control" alongside actors including Bill Murray, Jon Hurt, and Gael Garcia Bernal.
