Canadian actor Alexandre Landry earned critical acclaim and international awards for his portrayal of a mentally challenged young man in the throes of his first relationship in the French-language drama "Gabrielle" (2013). Born December 20, 1985 in the Canadian city of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Landry was raised in St-Etienne-des-Grès and studied acting at the National Theatre School of Canada. He worked in regional productions before earning critical acclaim as a young gay man who runs afoul of his deceased lover's family in an award-winning production of Tom at the Farm in 2011. Two years later, Landry made his film debut in "Gabrielle" (2013), a romantic comedy inspired by Garry Marshall's "The Other Sister" (2009). The drama, about two mentally disabled young people who fall in love, won numerous awards on the Canadian and international scene, including a Genie nomination for Actor in a Supporting Role for Landry. He tackled another challenging role in his next film, playing a young male prostitute on the streets of Montreal in "Love in the Time of Civil War" (2014), before taking the male lead in the supernatural thriller "Le Scaphandrier" ("The Diver," 2014).
