With a sound that combined modern R&B and hip hop with a '70s soul influence, Anderson Paak slogged it out for a while before breaking through to mainstream success. He was born Brandon Paak Anderson in Oxnard, California on February 8, 1986, and he started out in music by playing drums at his local church. He was playing drums for jazz-pop singer Haley Reinhart around the time he started working on his first album, 2012's O.B.E. Vol. 1, which he released under the pseudonym Breezy Lovejoy. He maintained the same alias for the DIY album Lovejoy later that same year, with neither effort earning much notice. His first album as Anderson Paak was 2014's Venice, but Paak wouldn't find commercial success until his next outing. His 2016 album, Malibu, made it to the Top 10 in the R&B charts and made some waves overseas as well. Though the single "Come Down" didn't chart, it ended up going Gold. Later that year, the Stone's Throw label released Yes Lawd, the debut album by NxWorries, a duo of Paak and producer Knxwledge. Paak soon signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath label, which released his album Oxnard in 2018. The record became his most successful so far, reaching No. 11 in the pop charts and giving Paak a No. 7 R&B hit with the single "Tints," featuring a guest appearance from Kendrick Lamar. Shortly afterwards, he announced the Andy's Beach Club world tour in support of the album, to begin in February of 2019.
