A strikingly beautiful redhead who has appeared in the German edition of Playboy magazine, Andrea Sawatzki is also an accomplished dramatic actress with an impressive list of credits. Born in a small Bavarian village in 1963, she began her acting career while studying in Munich in the 1980s. After making her film debut with a small role in director Dieter Dorn's modern, sexually charged adaptation of Goethe's "Faust," Sawatzki began working primarily in guest appearances on television. By the mid-1990s, she was playing character roles in German films like the quirky romantic comedy "Life Is All You Get," the juvenile delinquent musical "Bandits," and the black-humored comedy thriller "The Pharmacist." During this period, she also began appearing in recurring roles in Germany's popular television dramas, including a stint in the crime investigation series "Polizeiruf 110." This led to perhaps Sawatzi's best-known role, as police officer Charlotte Sanger in the long-running crime drama "Tatort," on which she starred for eight years between 2002 and 2010. She maintained her film career alongside her television success, co-starring opposite Christian Berkel in the drama "Der Unbestechliche," appearing in the cult thriller "The Experiment," and reteaming with her "Life Is All You Get" co-star Jurgen Vogel in the dysfunctional family drama "Shattered Glass." After leaving "Tatort," she moved on to the opulent historical mini-series "Borgia," set in Renaissance Italy.
