After attending art school and designing her own line of clothes while living in New York City for a time, Antonia Campbell-Hughes, who hails from Northern Ireland, launched into acting. Her first roles were small parts and working as an extra in movies like "Shaun of the Dead," playing a zombie, and "Breakfast on Pluto," playing a stripper. A more substantial part came next in the BBC miniseries "Blackbeard: Terror at Sea," starring James Purefoy as the infamous pirate. Around this same time, Campbell-Hughes landed the role that she's most well-known for in the British sitcom "Lead Balloon," playing the daughter of the main character, a struggling stand-up comedian trying to make it in London while keeping his personal life together. The show was well-regarded and was frequently compared to Larry David's hit HBO comedy-of-discomfort "Curb Your Enthusiasm." Her role in Jennifer Saunders' show "The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle" and the television movie "The Vivienne Vyle Show" also made an impact with viewers and critics alike. Although she's best known for her roles for the small screen, feature films have come her way, including a parts in Jane Campion's "Bright Star" and in "Albert Nobbs," starring Glenn Close. In "The Other Side of Sleep," a gritty drama about an Irish girl haunted by the murders of her mother and another young woman, the actress played the lead and showed that she was more than a supporting player and could command every scene.
