Barry Sullivan was a prolific film and television actor, with a career that spanned more than 40 years, earning him two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame--one for each medium. After a significant stint on Broadway in the 1930s, he began a very steady stream of supporting appearances in Hollywood films alongside some of the best known actresses of the era, including Ginger Rogers, Dorothy Lamour, and Susan Hayward. By 1951, Sullivan starred alongside Bette Davis in the drama "Payment on Demand." In 1952, he had a major supporting role in the Oscar-winning romance "The Bad and the Beautiful," with Kirk Douglas and Lana Turner. By the mid-50s, Sullivan began transitioning into television, and made his only award-nominated splash in 1956, earning an Emmy nomination for his performance on a single episode of "Ford Star Jubilee." Sullivan went on to make appearances on seemingly every hit western and crime drama over the next few decades - among them everything from the crime drama "Perry Mason" in the mid-'60s to the crime drama "The Streets of San Francisco in the mid-'70s." Sullivan played the lead in two series: from 1957 to '58, as Capt. Dave Scott on the adventure series "Harbormaster," and from 1960 to '62 he played Pat Garrett on the western "The Tall Man," which lasted 74 episodes. After a career that finally wound down in the 1980s, Sullivan passed away from respiratory failure at age 81.
