Actor-musician Bobby Short made a splash in Hollywood both on and off-screen. He also was featured in the miniseries "Roots: The Next Generations" (1978-79). He also appeared in the TV movie "Hardhat and Legs" (CBS, 1979-1980). He appeared in a number of television specials, including "The All-Time American Songbook" (1981-82), "Benny Goodman: Let's Dance -- A Musical Tribute" (PBS, 1985-86) and "A Tribute to American Music: Rodgers and Hart" (PBS, 1986-87). During the early stages of his Hollywood career, Short mainly held acting roles in films like "Hannah and Her Sisters" (1986) with Woody Allen. He next focused his entertainment career on film, appearing in "Superstar: The Life and Times of Andy Warhol" (1991), the Michael Caine action flick "Blue Ice" (1992) and the comedy "For Love Or Money" (1993) with Michael J. Fox. Short also created music for the Woody Allen comedy "Manhattan Murder Mystery" (1993). He spent the nineties and the early 2000s tackling film roles in "Man of the Century" (1999) with Gibson Frazier and the Ruth Ellington documentary "Reminiscing in Tempo" (2006). Short's music was most recently used in the Ben Affleck blockbuster dramatic adaptation "Argo" (2012). Additionally, he could be seen on a variety of television specials like "Lena Horne: In Her Own Voice" (PBS, 1996-97) and "Vaudeville" (PBS, 1997-98). Short passed away in March 2005 at the age of 81.
