French actor, producer and director Christian Clavier was born in Paris and attended high school at Lycee Pasteur. After graduation, Clavier began his career as an actor performing with comedy troupe "Splendid," which was involved in such cinema successes as "Le Père Noël est une ordure" (1982) and "Les Bronzés font du ski" (1979). After starring in and co-writing the knockabout comedy "L'Opêration Corned-Beef" (1991), Clavier made his mainstream breakthrough starring in the film "Les visiteurs" (1993), a comedy about a 12th century knight (played by frequent co-star Jean Reno) and his servant traveling to the 20th century and attempting to fit into modern society. Clavier played the servant, Jacouille la fripouille, which is loosely translated in English to "The Scoundrel." The character's catchphrase "Okkaaaaay!!" became popular in France following the release of the film. The film was #1 at the box office in France at the time of its release and later became a cult hit around the world. Following the success of "Les visiteurs," Clavier was a bona fide star, and began to appear in a number of high profile films. Clavier played opposite legends of French entertainment like Gérard Depardieu in the "Asterix & Obelix" film franchise and Daniel Auteuil in "L'entente cordiale" (2006), which also starred British comedy legends Jennifer Saunders and John Cleese. A dramatic role in the thriller "Bitter Victory" (2009) earned plaudits as well. In 2014, Clavier starred in the hit cross-cultural wedding farce "Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu?" (2014).
