David Baldacci was a hugely successful American novelist, gripping the nation's imagination with his crime stories and thrillers. Many of his best-selling novels were adapted for film and TV. Baldacci was born in Richmond, Virginia, and he stayed in his home state for the majority of his life. He wrote stories as a child, continuing to write short stories and screenplays as he grew older. He pursued a career in law, studying political science at Virginia Commonwealth University before earning his law degree from the University of Virginia. He practiced law in Washington D.C. for nearly a decade. His first novel, Absolute Power, took him three years to write and was published in 1996. The novel, centering around a scandalous presidency, became an international bestseller and was adapted into a film starring Clint Eastwood. Baldacci continued to write popular novels, including a few young adult books. He wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of his 2011 novel Wish You Well, and served as a consulting producer on "King and Maxwell" (TNT 2013), based on his series of novels about Secret Service agents turned private detectives, starring Rebecca Romijn and Jon Tenney. The series lasted only one season. Baldacci's Will Robie series, centering around a hit man hired by the U.S. government, met with a great deal of popularity; its third installment, The Target, hit number one on the New York Times Best Seller list in the spring of 2014.
