Dylan Schmid

Canadian actor Dylan Schmid showed an aptitude for darker material, both as a juvenile actor on "Once Upon a Time" (ABC, 2011-) and as a teenager in "1922" (Netflix, 2017) and "Shut Eye" (Hulu, 2017- ). Born Dylan Ray Schmid in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on March 7, 1999, he displayed a talent for performing as a toddler, and at the age of six, won a talent contest which allowed him to study acting at a local studio. He was a regular presence on stage in school productions and local theater, and soon graduated to professional performing with a silent role in a play produced by the Pacific Opera Society in Victora, British Columbia. Intensive training with an Australian performing arts institute led to representation with a Canadian talent agency and his first screen role, a guest turn on the cult science fiction series "Fringe" (Fox 2008-2013). More work on Canadian-lensed content preceded his feature debut as the youthful version of Max Minghella's character in the fantasy-drama "Horns" (2013), but his true starmaking turn came the prior year when he was cast as the young Baelfire, son of Rumplestiltskin and a prominent figure in numerous plotlines on "Once Upon a Time." Schmid remained with the ABC series until 2013, after which he worked steadily in Canadian-made features and television, including "R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour" (Hub Network/Discovery Family, 2010-14) and "Beyond" (ABC Family, 2016- ). In 2017, he was cast opposite Thomas Jane and Molly Parker in "1922," an adaptation of a Stephen King novella about a farmer (Jane) who enlists his son (Schmid) in a plot to murder the boy's mother (Parker). He then returned to series work on "Shut Eye" (Hulu 2017- ), playing the son of a faux psychic (Jeffrey Donovan) who discovers that he actually has mental powers after suffering a head injury.
