Growing up in Quebec in the 1980s, Emily Hampshire gravitated towards acting after being exposed to live theater as a child. That led to her moving to Toronto as a teenager to start to strike out on her own. She appeared in a few episodes of children's classic "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" (YTV 1990-96, 1999-2000). Her first starring film role was at the age of 17 in the Sean Astin-starring romantic comedy "Boy Meets Girl" (1998). Most of Hampshire's work up through her early 20s were in the Canadian film industry, in films such as "Posers" (2003), "Twist" (2003), and "Snow Cake" (2006). She also dabbled in voice acting, most notably in the Alicia Silverstone-starring "Braceface" (Fox Family Channel 2001-04). After the first decade of the 2000s came to a close, she appeared in a variety of films, including the Jay Baruchel-starring "The Trotsky" and David Cronenberg's thriller "Cosmopolis" (2012). 2015 was a banner year for Hampshire as she started appearing in two TV shows: "12 Monkeys" (Syfy 2015-18) and "Schitt's Creek" (CBC 2015- ). Both were successful with both of her performances being varied and well regarded. She appeared in Darren Aronofsky's divisive "Mother!" (2017) and the Kit Harrington-starring "The Death and Life of John F. Donovan" (2018).
