Beginning his ascent toward success in the film industry at a young age, Ericson Core enrolled at Art Center College of Design at age 16 on a full scholarship. He earned his B.A. in fine arts before moving on to the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television, where he earned another B.A. Core topped off his education with a return to Art Center College, where he graduated with a master's in cinematography. Soon after graduating, he entered the professional world shooting a series of music videos for artists including Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Music proved a good fit for Core's skills, and he found notable jobs on projects like the film "The Show" (1995), a documentary about the hip-hop industry. Core acted as director of photography on his first feature film in 1999 with the action movie "Payback" (1999). In 2001, Core won AFI's Cinematographer of the Year award for his cinematography on "The Fast and the Furious" (2001). After a decade as a cinematographer, Core made the leap to directing feature films with the sports drama "Invincible" (2006). An even higher profile project came along when Core was tapped to direct a 2015 remake of Kathryn Bigelow's film "Point Break" (1991).
