One of Latin America's preeminent screen stars, Fredrico Luppi made an international splash in 1981 with the politically charged thriller "Time for Revenge." With his august appearance and background in the theater, the Buenos Aires-born Luppi is widely considered in his native Argentina as an actor's actor. After working with some of Argentina's top directors--Fernando Ayala, Raul de la Torre, Hector Oliveira--in the 1970s, Luppi began a close partnership with filmmaker Adolfo Aristarain, appearing in the director's controversial pro-labor drama "Time for Revenge" (1981). He went on to star as the male lead in many of Aristarain's films, including the Oscar-nominated "A Place in the World" (1992) and the touching father-son drama "Martin (Hache)" (1997). Later, Luppi made inroads as an international film star, most notably appearing in John Sayles's 1997 south-of-the-border drama "Men with Guns" and, in 2005, made his directorial debut with "Pasos," which was filmed and set in Spain.
