Producer, writer, and director Gregory Jacobs has been involved in many different types of films throughout his career. While attending film school at New York University, Jacobs was a production assistant on "Matewan," John Sayles' 1987 historical drama about coal workers' efforts to unionize. From there, Jacobs became a second assistant director on significant dramas such as "Miller's Crossing" and "Little Man Tate." Gradually, Jacobs began earning first assistant director assignments. It was as the first assistant director on the 1993 Depression-set drama "King of the Hill" that Jacobs first collaborated with director Steven Soderbergh, and it would become a significant partnership for both men. Jacobs became a producer for many of Soderbergh's subsequent films, including "Solaris," "Ocean's Twelve," "Che," and "Contagion." Meanwhile, Jacobs also continued to serve as assistant director on many other films, for Soderbergh and others. In 2004, Soderbergh and George Clooney produced "Criminal," Jacobs' writing and directorial debut. The crime film, which starred John C. Reilly, Diego Luna, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, revolves around a couple of L.A. con men. Following this, Jacobs directed the horror thriller "Wind Chill" in 2007. In this film, Emily Blunt and Ashton Holmes play college students sharing a ride home when their car breaks down.
