Former office boy and salesman who entered film as the manager of a Los Angeles movie theater in 1922. Wallis' success attracted the notice of the Brothers Warner, who hired him as assistant to the director of publicity; he became director of the department within three months. Wallis was appointed studio manager in 1928 and named production executive soon thereafter, but was supplanted by Darryl Zanuck in 1931.
