An English-born lead and occasional supporting player in features and television productions on both sides of the Atlantic, Hugh Dancy specialized in essaying romantic young men in features like "Ella Enchanted" (2004), "Elizabeth I" (Channel 4/HBO, 2005-06), "Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction" (2006) and "The Jane Austen Book Club" (2007). Though he shined in such roles, Dancy's palette was varied enough to allow for more complex characters in independent features like "Evening" (2007), which cast him as an artist unable to reconcile his love for Patrick Wilson, or the former lover of an unstable heiress in "Savage Grace" (2007). But Dancy remained most appreciated as a youthful love interest, and his return to that persona in features like "Confessions of a Shopaholic" (2009) and "Adam" (2009) seemed to indicate that his popularity in such roles remained unabated, while his secretive marriage to girlfriend Claire Danes sparked interest in the tabloid media. Turning to comedy, he had a supporting turn in "Our Idiot Brother" (2011), but went back to more dramatic fare with a role in acclaimed "Martha Marcy May Marlene" (2011). After starring as the inventor of the vibrator in the romantic comedy "Hysteria" (2012), Dancy had a moving guest arc on the critical hit "The Big C" (Showtime, 2010-13), co-starred in Bryan Fuller's cult favorite "Hannibal" (NBC 2013-15) as Will Graham, and starred in religion-themed drama "The Path" (Hulu 2016- ), proving that the young actor was comfortable in just about any role he choose.
