German actor Joachim Fuchsberger was a familiar postwar presence to domestic film audiences through his series of Edgar Wallace adaptations and work as a TV host. A veteran of World War II, he was a paratrooper who was a prisoner of the Soviets and later the British. After the war he worked as a typesetting engineer, advertising manager, and radio spokesman. In 1954 he had his first starring role, in the war drama "08/15," one in a series of films that continued with "08/15 Part 2" and "08/15 at Home" in 1955. After several more starring roles in a variety of roles in the '50s he starred as amateur detective Richard Gordon in "Face of the Frog" in 1959, an adaptation of an Edgar Wallace thriller. He went on to play detective roles in 12 more Edgar Wallace adaptations, from "The Terrible People" in 1960 until "What Have You Done to Solange?," an Italian/German production, in 1972. He was also a TV host for several programs, including "Heut' abend," a talk show that ran from 1980 until 1991. After a 1982 appearance in the horror film "Der Fan" he stopped acting on the screen but continued appearing on stage. He was coaxed out of semi-retirement in the mid '90s with roles in TV movies and in 2007 returned to the big screen with a role in the crime comedy "Neues vom Wixxer" in a role that poked fun at his previous screen persona.
