John Abbott was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. In 1949, he appeared on Broadway in "Montserrat." In 1934, he joined the Old Vic Company. In 1957, he co-starred in "The Waltz of the Toreadors" on Broadway. Abbott started his acting career landing roles in such films as the spy thriller "Nightmare" (1942) with Diana Barrymore, the Michèle Morgan drama "Joan of Paris" (1942) and "Mission to Moscow" (1943) with Walter Huston. He also appeared in "They Got Me Covered" (1943), "Dangerous Blondes" (1943) with Allyn Joslyn and the Tom Conway mystery "The Falcon in Hollywood" (1944). He continued to act in productions like "The Notorious Lone Wolf" (1946) with Gerald Mohr, the adventure "The Bandit of Sherwood Forest" (1946) with Cornel Wilde and "Time Out of Mind" (1947). He also appeared in the Ella Raines thriller "The Web" (1947). Abbott was most recently credited in "Touching Evil II" (PBS, 1999-2000). Abbott had a number of different projects under his belt in the sixties through the nineties, including "The Jungle Book" (1967) starring Phil Harris, "Used Cars" (1980) and "Slapstick of Another Kind" (1984) starring Jerry Lewis. His credits also expanded to "Revenge of Billy the Kid" with Michael Balfour (1991) and "Four Weddings and A Funeral" (1994). Abbott passed away in May 1996 at the age of 91.
