Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts started working online releasing various comedy shorts and series. These included "Single Dads" (2009-2011) for Fox International and the short "Successful Alcoholics" (2009) which showcased his quirky low key humor and screened at Sundance, SXSW and over 30 film festivals. As funnyordie.com moved from the web to television, Vogt-Roberts was a natural choice to help ease the transition, directing several segments across the second season of "Funny or Die Presents . . ." (HBO, 2010- ) followed by TV movie "Mash Up" (Comedy Central, 2011) and three episodes of MTV's horror mockumentary series "Death Valley" (2011). The sketch/stand-up/videogame format of "Mash Up" obviously struck a chord with viewers and it returned for a full season in 2011 hosted by the star of "Successful Alcoholics" TJ Miller. Indie coming of age comedy "The Kings of Summer" (2013) was Vogt-Roberts' first feature film as director and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. That film was also where Vogt-Roberts first met Nick Offerman; he went on to direct Offerman's feature-length stand-up film "American Ham" (2014). Returning to TV, he directed several episodes of the critically acclaimed sitcom "You're The Worst" (FX, 2014-). With such a strong background in comedy, Vogt-Roberts was a surprise choice when he was announced as director of the "King Kong" (2005) prequel "Kong: Skull Island" (2017) starring Tom Hiddleston.
