Joseph Cawthorn

Joseph Cawthorn was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. Cawthorn kickstarted his acting career in various films such as the Edwin Maxwell comedy adaptation "The Taming of the Shrew" (1929), the Mary Pickford adaptation "Kiki" (1931) and "Peach O' Reno" (1931). He also appeared in the horror flick "White Zombie" (1932) with Bela Lugosi, the comedic adaptation "Love Me Tonight" (1932) with Maurice Chevalier and the Joan Blondell comedy "Blondie Johnson" (1933). His film career continued throughout the thirties in productions like "Whistling in the Dark" (1933), "Men Are Such Fools" (1933) and "Glamour" (1934). He also appeared in "The Last Gentleman" (1934). Nearing the end of his career, he tackled roles in "Smart Girl" (1935), the Dick Powell musical "Gold Diggers of 1935" (1935) and the Irene Dunne adaptation "Sweet Adeline" (1935). He also appeared in the comedy adaptation "One Rainy Afternoon" (1936) with Francis Lederer and "The Great Ziegfeld" (1936). Cawthorn last acted in "So Ends Our Night" (1941) with Fredric March. Cawthorn was married to Queenie Vassar. Cawthorn passed away in January 1949 at the age of 81.
