Born in Los Angeles in 1960, Kerry Ehrin's father was a film editor and her mother a producer's assistant when they met on the famed Fox lot. Ehrin graduated UCLA as an English major and received some sage advice from science fiction writer Richard Matheson, who suggested that she write a script. Her first professional writing was on Glenn Gordon Caron's TV show, "Moonlighting" (ABC, 1985-1989). Featuring a will they or won't they romance between a pair of private detectives and self-referential stories, the show launched the career of Bruce Willis. Her next major work was as a co-producer on the nostalgic series "The Wonder Years" (ABC, 1988-1993). Ehrin wrote the features "Mr. Wrong" (1996), and "Inspector Gadget" (1999), but her bread and butter continued to be television. In 2003 she teamed with producer David E. Kelley on "Boston Public" (Fox, 2000-2004) and helped shepherd Kelley's "Boston Legal" (ABC, 2004-2008). In 2006, she began collaborating with producer Jason Katims on his hit show "Friday Night Lights" (NBC, 2006-2008; The 101 Network, 2008-2011), and continued the partnership when she served as a consulting producer on "Parenthood" (NBC, 2010-2015) in 2011 and 2012. In 2013, she teamed with Carlton Cuse and Anthony Cipriano to create "Bates Motel" (A&E, 2013-17), a contemporary retelling of the story of Norman Bates, and how he became the man he was in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" (1960).
