When you examine the history of television from 1980 to 2010, it reads like the personal filmography of Larry Cedar. This actor, while never attaining A-list star status, has graced the small screen in pretty much every iconic series. In the 1980s, Cedar turned in memorable guest star performances on hit shows like the Korean War-era comedy "M*A*S*H," oil-magnate soap "Dallas," and crime procedural "L.A. Law." In the 1990s, he played scene-stealing characters on everything from the hip undercover cop series "21 Jump Street" and the under-age doctor drama "Doogie Howser, M.D" to the newsroom sitcom "Murphy Brown." It was during the '90s, however, that Cedar really flourished in larger roles. He became a regular player on the children's math-oriented TV show "Square One TV," and had a starring role as Ollie on the short-lived sci-fi family series "A.J.'s Time Travelers." Though he has also appeared in feature films like the noirish murder mystery "Hollywoodland," Cedar really was given the opportunity to shine in his role as Leon in the critically acclaimed HBO series "Deadwood," a profanity-laced yet beautifully elegiac Western. Even though the recurring part of opium addict Leon was a small one, Cedar managed to create a captivating portrait of a pitiful and manipulative man trying to play all sides in order to simply survive (and get his next fix) in the town of "Deadwood," the ragged edge of America's lawless frontier.
