One of the most respected actors in Denmark, Lars Simonsen was beloved for as long as he had been on screen. Born in Odense in 1963, Simonsen moved with his family to Rungsted at age seven. After finishing school and moving in with a friend, then-18 year old Simonsen landed an audition for an upcoming film directed by Billie August. Much to his surprise, despite a total lack of experience, Simonsen won the role of Erik in the film "Twist and Shout" (1984). He would go on to appear in films like "The Chronic Innocence" (1985) and "Pelle the Conqueror" (1987), before enrolling in the four year acting program at Aarhus Teater. The experience would prove to be hugely important to Simonsen, who developed a career-long love of theater. Simonsen would continue to act on screen as well, joining the cast of the Danish TV series "The Village" (TV2/Øst, 1991-96) for its third and fourth seasons. He would also earn acclaim for his role in the film "Barbara" (1994) as well as for the period film "Klinkevals" (1999). After appearing in the dramas "The Judge" (2005) and "Brotherhood" (2009), he returned to TV with a role on "The Bridge" (DR, 2011-18) and later on the Netflix series "The Rain" (Netflix, 2018-).
