Lionel Mark Smith was a prolific actor who created a name for himself largely on the big screen. Smith's early acting career mostly consisted of roles in various films, such as "Galaxina" (1980), the dramatic adaptation "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1981) with Jack Nicholson and the comedy "Things Change" (1988) with Don Ameche. He also appeared in the Joe Mantegna action picture "Homicide" (1991). He worked in television in his early acting career as well, including parts on "Days of Our Lives" (NBC, 1965-) and "Park Place" (CBS, 1980-81). His work around this time also included a part on the TV movie "Above Suspicion" (HBO, 1994-95). Following that project, Smith worked on mostly television programs, including "Phenom" (ABC, 1993-94) and "Cleghorne!" (WB, 1995-96). More recently, he earned a role in the Ben Gazzara crime picture "The Spanish Prisoner" (1998). Smith focused on film in more recent years, appearing in the action film "The Mod Squad" (1999) with Claire Danes, the Jeremy Blackman drama "Magnolia" (1999) and "State and Main" (2000) with Alec Baldwin. He also appeared in the Val Kilmer thriller "Spartan" (2004) and the dramatic comedy "Edmond" (2006) with William H. Macy. Smith last acted in "Stuck" (2008). Smith passed away in February 2008 at the age of 62.
