An incredibly prolific English character actress, Marianne Stone has appeared in over 200 films, including nearly one-third of the farcical "Carry On" comedies. She has also worked with some of the most revered directors of the 20th century, including Richard Attenborough and Stanley Kubrick. Stone's lengthy screen career (which spanned over four decades) began in 1943, after she received a minor part in the humorous musical "Miss London Ltd.." Several years later, she acted in the gritty "Brighton Rock," a highlight of British film noir which was scripted by famed writer Graham Greene Three years later, Stone reteamed with "Brighton Rock" filmmakers the Boulting brothers, acting in their 1950 political thriller "Seven Days to Noon." Working in dozens of films throughout the '50s, Stone ended the decade by receiving a small part in "The 39 Steps," a remake of British legend Alfred Hitchcock's espionage classic. 1959 also marked Stone's first appearance in the "Carry On" franchise, as she acted in the box office hit "Carry On Nurse" (she would appear in eight more films in the series). Three years later, she had a role in Kubrick's Nabokov adaptation "Lolita," and in 1967, she was in the classroom drama "To Sir, With Love," which starred Sidney Poitier. She also acted in the 1970 holiday classic "Scrooge" with Alec Guinness and Albert Finney. Stone continued to work in television and films until she reached her late 60s, and called it quits in 1989.
