Actor Michael B. Silver grew up in Manhattan and graduated from Brown University, in Rhode Island. His grandfather, Sidney Buchman, was a successful screenwriter who won an Academy Award for the 1942 fantasy film "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" and ran Columbia Pictures throughout the 1930s and 1940s. Silver got his acting start in 1990, appearing in an episode of the sitcom "Designing Women." Soon after, he appeared in his first film role, in the ninth episode in the "Friday the 13th" film franchise, entitled "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday." He reportedly was quite enthusiastic about appearing in the nude for the role, despite the cold weather. He appeared in his best known role to date in 1996, as Assistant District Attorney Leo Cohen in the popular cop drama "NYPD Blue." Over the course of eight years, he appeared in 31 episodes of the program. Some films he has appeared in include comedy blockbuster "Legally Blonde"; drama "I Am Sam," which starred Sean Penn; and "Seabiscuit," which told the true story of a successful Depression-era racehorse.
