Milena Vukotic

The impish Milena Vukotic started out as a ballerina, but she soon turned to acting in films, playing a maid to Guilietta Masina in Federico Fellini's surreal tale of a housewife's dream life, "Juliet of the Spirits." Vukotic played an uncredited role in the Fellini segment of "Spirits of the Dead," called "Toby Dammit," and in 1972, she starred in a film by the great surrealist director Luis Buñuel, "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie," about a group of upper class people who never get to eat their dinner. Vukotic went the cult route, appearing in "Andy Warhol's Dracula" for director Paul Morrisey, and she re-entered the world of Buñuel: first as a nurse in his "The Phantom of Liberty" then as a woman on a train listening to a tale of romantic obsession from Fernando Rey in "That Obscure Object of Desire." In the 1980s and beyond, Vukotic has made a number of appearances on Italian television, including a role as Clara Maffei in the mini-series about the composer Verdi, appropriately titled "Verdi." In 1992, she began a 17 episode stint on the romantic comedy series "Une Famille Formidable," which ended in 2007. From 1998 to 2009, she held a recurring role on the Italian comedy series "Un medico in famiglia." In 2010, she starred in the Shakespeare-inspired romantic comedy "Letters to Juliet."
