After coming to Los Angeles from Canada in the early 1980's, Winnipeg native Mimi Kuzyk didn't have to wait long for her first big break. It came in the form of the recurring role of Detective Patsy Mayo on the Steven Bochco produced cop show "Hill Street Blues." Many years later, she graduated to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police Kay Barrow on the 2001-2004 Canadian series "Blue Murder." Kuzyk has a fairly distinctive look as an actress, which has stood her in great stead over the years. In addition to regular roles in 1991 on the thriller series "The Hidden Room" and in 2008's comedy "Sophie," she maintained a steady guest star role pace, often playing the role of a judge. The bulk of her work has been for the small screen, but every now and then Kuzyk will pop up in support in features. She was the Secretary of State in the 2004 disaster film "The Day After Tomorrow" and a professor in the 2003 adaptation of Philip Roth's "The Human Stain." Not bad for someone who started out her career very inauspiciously on a pair of Canadian comedy series, "SCTV," about the staff at a TV station who specialize in broadcasting unique material, and "Bizarre," a politically incorrect sketch comedy show.
