Nathan Kahane is a feature film producer and the co-founder (with Joe Drake and Zach Helm) of production company Mandate Pictures, which was formed in 2003. Kahane produced the cult stoner comedy hit "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle," the Asian-flavored horror film "The Grudge" (a remake of the Japanese film "Ju-On: The Grudge," both of which were directed by Takashi Shimizu), and the horror film "Boogeyman." The films made by Mandate Pictures turned out to be an impressive lot, showcasing the company's ambition and taste for the unconventional. Most of Mandate's pictures were quirky comedies like the Charlie Kaufman-lite postmodern comedy "Stranger Than Fiction," starring Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, and Emma Thompson; the award-winning comedy "Juno," which became a darling with audiences and critics; and Drew Barrymore's rollergirl coming-of-age directorial debut "Whip It." Mandate has also produced several horror/thriller titles such as the disturbing film "The Strangers" and the outlandish and stylish Sam Raimi horrorfest "Drag Me to Hell."
