Neil Marshall built his reputation as one of the bleeding edge filmmakers of the aptly named Splat Pack movement. Born in 1970, in Newcastle upon Tyne, Marshall began making films as a youth armed with only a Super 8 camera. After formal training at Newcastle Polytechnic, Marshall worked as a film editor, occasionally dabbling in screenwriting on projects, including director Bharat Nalluri's debut feature, "Killing Time" (1998). Marshall transitioned into directing with his first feature film, 2002's "Dog Soldiers," earning numerous critical plaudits and awards. Marshall, who's staked his reputation as a director with grotesque imagery and ultra-violent subject matter, earned high praise for the more psychologically-oriented thriller "The Descent" (2005) and the post-apocalyptic film "Doomsday" (2008). With his reputation as a director growing in the U.K. and abroad, Marshall directed the action-oriented historical drama "Centurion" in 2010.
