In the worlds of show business, politics, and just about every other facet of high society living, the word "fashion" was synonymous with the name Óscar de la Renta. The cultural icon reigned as perhaps the most famous and revered clothing designer of the 20th century, pioneering along with his own ready-to-wear garment lines a fresh, fervent attitude on the industry altogether. Upon his death in October 2014 at the age of 82, he was mourned worldwide by the fashion industry and fans, including many of the stars who made his clothes a regular feature of the red carpet.
