Composer Paolo Buonvino is known for his ability to capture the atmosphere of a film with a catchy soundtrack that sometimes features Celtic themes. He has quickly become one of the top Italian composers working today. He grew up in the town of Scordia, Italy, and went on to study piano at Conservatorio F. Cilea in Reggio Calabria. When he completed his studies there, he continued his education by attending the University of Bologna with a major in music. Upon graduation, he worked as a music assistant for the well-respected composer and filmmaker Franco Battiato, whose work is often experimental and avant-garde with East Asian religious motifs and philosophical references. With Battiato, he worked on music for various theater companies. In 1997, he worked on his first piece for television, composing the soundtrack for the TV Mafia movie "La piovra 8 - Lo scandalo," directed by Giacomo Battiato (no relation to Franco). In 1998, he composed his first piece for film, writing the soundtrack for the Gabriele Muccino-directed coming-of-age comedy "Ecco fatto." He would go on to work on three other films for Muccino: 1999's "Come tu nessuno mai," 2001's "L'ultimo bacio," and in 2003, "Recordati di me." Some other directors Buonovino has composed for include Marco Martani, Antonello Grimaldi, and Carlo Carlei, for whom he worked on two productions, including the hit TV movie "Padre Pio" in 2000.
