Perez Hilton

One of the Internet's most polarizing figures, Perez Hilton took a very simple and overdone idea - celebrity gossip - and turned it into a one-man empire. In 2004, after spending several years on the outskirts of the entertainment world, Hilton started a blog, PageSixSixSix, where he posted pictures of celebrities, adding crude doodles and scathing captions. What began as a simple release for the celebrity-obsessed Hilton soon snowballed into one of the most visited sites on the web. By 2007, the site, now titled PerezHilton.com, was generating millions of page views a day, and Perez himself had become an unlikely celebrity - a kind of modern day Hedda Hopper with the power to make or break careers. A near-constant presence on reality television, he even briefly hosted his own television show, "What Perez Sez" in 2007. Two years later, the openly homosexual blogger courted controversy in two wildly discussed public displays. In April, he appeared as a judge on the Miss USA pageant where he famously asked Miss California her controversial views on gay marriage, and only two months later, got into a tussle with a music manager, during which he hurled a gay slur at the man. Both incidents made national press, furthering Hilton's stature as the "Queen of All Media."
