Australian cinematographer Peter Levy came to prominence in Hollywood as the director of photography on late-'80s popcorn features such as "A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child" and "Predator 2." A native of Sydney, Levy gained experience in his field as part of the Commonwealth Film Unit, a producer of Australian educational films and documentaries. He made his commercial movie debut on the fifth installment of the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series, director Stephen Hopkins's "Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child" (1989), replacing cinematographer Conrad Hall. Levy went to work with Hopkins on several more big budget film projects, including the 1990 sci-fi action film "Predator 2" and the box office flop "Lost in Space" (1998). In the 2000s Levy made his most prominent contributions to cinematography on the small screen, earning Emmy Awards for his work on the Showtime Series "Californication" and the controversial bio-miniseries "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers" (2004).
