Actor Richard Ward was known for his roles on the silver screen. Ward's early acting career consisted of roles in various films, such as the John Whitmore dramatic adaptation "Black Like Me" (1964), the Ivan Dixon drama "Nothing But a Man" (1964) and the Hampton Clanton dramatic adaptation "The Cool World" (1964). He also appeared in "The Learning Tree" (1969), the fantasy "Brother John" (1971) with Sidney Poitier and "Across 110th Street" (1972). His work around this time also included a part on the TV movie "Starsky and Hutch" (ABC, 1974-75). He also played parts in television during these years, including roles in "Good Times" (CBS, 1973-79) and "Beacon Hill" (CBS, 1975-76). He also had roles in film during these years, including roles in the comedy "For Pete's Sake" (1974) with Barbra Streisand and the James Mason action film "Mandingo" (1975). Ward took on film roles in more recent years, appearing in "Death Collector" (1976), "The Jerk" (1979) and "Brubaker" (1980) with Robert Redford. Ward was most recently credited in "The Bride in Black" (ABC, 1990-91). He held additional roles in television including a part on "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" (1975-77). He also was featured in the TV movie "Contract on Cherry Street" (NBC, 1977-78). Ward passed away in July 1979 at the age of 64.
