A Canadian of Japanese descent, Robert Ito was a dancer with the National Ballet of Canada before becoming an actor. He is best known for his role as forensic lab technician Sam Fujiyama on the TV medical drama "Quincy M.E." His TV debut was as an ambulance driver on the show "I Spy" in 1965, the first of several guest appearances that decade. He also appeared in two films, including the Dick Van Dyke feature "Some Kind of a Nut." In addition to appearances on shows such as "Ironside," "M.A.S.H.," and "Mannix" in the 1970s, he had a recurring role as the voice of Henry Chan in the animated series "The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan." Before landing his role on "Quincy M.E." in 1976, he also made an appearance in the blockbuster World War II film "Midway." He had a role in the cult film "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension" in 1984, after the show had ended. Ito worked as a voice actor on numerous animated TV series and films, and continued making many guest television appearances, including five episodes of the primetime soap "Falcon Crest."
