Sonja Bennett started acting after enrolling the Studio 58 program at Langara College in Vancouver, Canada. She made her film debut in "Punch" (2002), written and directed by her father, Guy Bennett. It was a challenging introduction as the lead in a psychological drama focusing on a father and daughter's relationship, but her performance won the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in a Canadian Film. Bennett worked consistently in film and TV including appearances in "John Doe" (Fox, 2002-03), and "Tru Calling" (Fox, 2003-05) before landing a recurring role in Canadian police procedural "Cold Squad" (CTV, 1998-2005). This was swiftly followed by the Stephen King adaptation "The Dead Zone" (USA, 2002-07) and a lead in the Canadian comedy-drama series "Godiva's" (Bravo!, 2005-06). During this period, Bennett also worked steadily in film, with roles in the movies "Fido" (2006), "YPF" (2007), and "Control Alt Delete" (2008). She also scored a memorable role as Specialist 2nd Class Marcie Brasko in a three-episode arc of the critically-acclaimed reboot of the science fiction series "Battlestar Galactica" (Sci-Fi, 2003-09). Bennett made her screenwriting debut with the comedy "Preggoland" (2014), in which she also starred as a woman who fakes her own pregnancy. "Preggoland" picked up several awards on the festival circuit, including Best Screenplay at the Fargo Film Festival and Best Film at the Omaha Film Festival. Bennett returned to TV with a guest spot on "Motive" (ABC, 2013- ) before joining the third season of the summer drama "Mistresses" (ABC 2013-16) in 2015.
