Born in New Delhi, India in 1993, Suraj Sharma emerged from an international casting call of 3,000 other young men to land the role of Pi Patel in Ang Lee's adaptation "Life of Pi" (2012). A tale of philosophy wrapped in an adventure, the film follows Pi's story of surviving a shipwreck on a boat he shares with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker among other animals. It was nominated for eleven Academy Awards® and won 4, including Best Director for Lee. After his first whirlwind experience with acing, Sharma went back to Delhi to complete his studies at St. Stephens College, part of the University of Delhi, then moved to New York City to study filmmaking at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. In 2014, he went back to work, appearing in "Million Dollar Arm" (2014) and a recurring role on "Homeland" (Showtime, 2011-). He continued to take film roles, but it wasn't until 2017 that he first starred in a film from his home country, the Bollywood comedy "Phillauri" (2017). In 2018, he appeared in his first series regular role on the show "God Friended Me" (CBS, 2018-).
