French actor Ticky Holgado (whose real name was Joseph Holgado) is best known for appearing in movies directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, including such visually stunning favorites as "Delicatessen," "La Cité des enfants perdus," "Amélie," and "Un long dimanche de fiançailles." Holgado began acting during the early 1980s, in such films as "Belles, blondes et bronzées," "On n'est pas sorti de l'auberge," and "On l'appelle Catastrophe." Further film roles came his way throughout the remainder of the decade, until he received his breakthrough role as the character Marcel Tapioca in the 1991 movie, "Delicatessen." However, it was around this time that Holgado discovered he was suffering from lung cancer. He would continue to act in movies, including a pair of César Award nominated roles in 1991's "Une époque formidable..." and 1995's "French Twist," and it was believed that his cancer had gone into remission in 2003. Sadly, this did not turn out to be the case, and he died on January 22, 2004, in Paris.
