John Surman rose to fame as an actor, gracing the silver screen many times over the course of his Hollywood career. Surman worked on a variety of projects during his early entertainment career, including "Black Hills" (1985), "Chimeres" (1989) and "Des Enfants Gates" (1977). He also contributed to "Merry Go Round" (1983), "Permeke" with Ilse Uitterlinden (1985) and "Without A Clue" with Michael Caine (1988). His film career continued throughout the nineties and the early 2000s in productions like "Chicago Joe and the Showgirl" (1990) with Kiefer Sutherland, "Being Human" (1994) with Robin Williams and the dramatic adaptation "Les Miserables" (1998) with Liam Neeson. He also landed a role in the miniseries "Vanity Fair" (1999-2000). Surman also created music for the Richard Edson drama "The Shade" (2000). In his more recent career, he continued to act in the Clive Owen crime picture "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" (2004) and the Johnny Depp hit fantasy "Alice in Wonderland" (2010). He also worked in television during these years, including a part on "The Borgias" (Showtime, 2010-13). Surman also contributed music to the drama "Apartment No. 5c" (2002) with Tinkerbell and "Respiro" (2003). Surman most recently acted in the Hugh Jackman smash hit dramatic adaptation "Les Misérables" (2012).
